FAQ
Q: Who is this internship for?
The internship is open to junior high or high school students, college students, and young adults (ages 15–25) who are passionate about worship, growing in leadership, and serving in the church.
Q: Do I need to be an experienced musician or singer?
A: To be integrated with the Sunday worship team, we ask that interns have some experience and be able to display some proficiency with their preferred instrument. While musical experience is helpful, a heart to serve, grow, and be teachable is more important.
Q: What should my child bring?
A: Instrument (guitar, church can provide piano or keyboard), Backpack with notebook, pen and snacks. They can also bring a laptop if they have one for note taking.
Q: Will you feed my child?
A: We will provide dinner on Wednesdays since the hours run into the evening (4PM – 8:30PM). No food will be provided on Tuesdays and Sundays. It’s recommended they pack some snacks.
Q: Does my child have to attend all days (Tues, Wed and Sun)?
A: Yes, interns are required to be present for all days / hours committed. The hours required consists of service planning meetings, training, rehearsals and actual integration for 2 worship services on Sundays. Each intern will be relied upon as part of a ministry team and each day leads up to preparation for Sundays. If an intern cannot make a Wednesday rehearsal, they will not be able to join the team on Sundays. Part of the commitment would serve to show interns the value of taking part in a team, communicating, being reliable and setting them up to be able to responsibly serve in future ministries they might be called to as adults.
Q: What if I have a summer job or family vacation?
A: Let us know any scheduling conflicts when you apply. While we ask for consistency, we understand flexibility is sometimes needed.
Q: Can I sit in on days?
A: Of course! Parents are more than welcome! No dinner though, haha!
Q: Is there transportation available to possibly drop off my child?
A: Unfortunately, due to liability we cannot pick up or drop off your child.
Q: Do I have to be available for the whole summer?
A: No. Each Internship session is by 1 month duration: June, July, or August
Q: Is there a cost or fee to participate?
A: No. This internship is free of charge. Donations for food or even providing dinners if there are multiple interns on Wednesday are appreciated.
Q: What if I don’t attend Kalihi Union Church?
A: That’s totally fine! This internship is open to young leaders from other churches who align with our values and mission.
