Why are you going on a mission?

Pastor Steeper asked me the question: “Why are you going on a mission trip to Africa?”

My story begins with someone asking me “Will you pray about going on a mission?” Reluctantly, I did and while praying I started to feel uncomfortable. I had a big ”aha” moment — the Lord impressed upon my heart that I was in my comfort zone.

What do I mean by that? I confess I was warmly relaxed in my walk with the Lord.

My next prayer thought was “from Your perspective Lord, what do You want me to know about this?” I felt the Lord saying, if I went to Uganda, He would show me something about
Himself in the land and the people … there is something about Himself that He will reveal to me if I went. In going I would experience His creation and be a vessel to give His love away to the people.

I asked, “Lord, what does loving people look like?” I sensed the Lord instructing me … be available to pray with people, initiate a helping hand, give a word of encouragement and pause and listen to people’s stories. It is when people feel heard and understood that healing begins. More importantly, I go with a secure feeling that you (the KUC Family) are with us on this journey because you will be praying for us.

This is my story of why I went on a short-term mission trip to Africa.
